iPad owners are 40 year old men

The iPad has been a huge hit for Apple since its launch three months ago.

So far, Apple has sold 3 million tablets. It's still very much a niche product, but it's an extremely lucrative one.

So who is buying the iPad?

Yahoo has put together a series of charts on the demographics of the iPad, based on visitors to its site.

Who visits Yahoo with an iPad obviously depends on Yahoo's own demographics as well as those of the iPad, but Yahoo indexes the results to its baseline, offering up a good picture of what the average iPad owner looks like.

Apple surpasses Microsoft

vs.

Apple has been growing enormously fast in this year and has now according to Digital Media Buzz surpassed Microsoft.

"Recently, Apple emerged with a market value of roughly $222 billion compared with Microsoft’s $219 billion. Apple spearheaded into the second highest-valued American company directly behind Exxon Mobile, which was valued at $278.6 billion."

This is perhaps not surprising taking into consideration how Apple's strategy on Music and Mobile equipment has been dead right on. Microsoft hasn't really launched anything remarkable except perhaps new versions of Windows. Xbox is competing with Sony but not really winning that market, Microsoft doesn't have a media player nor a mobile phone (to speak of).

Think about 20 years ago......

Google targets your living room

Google TV is about to happen - OK what is that going to be like? Well as it says.....they are pulling together the Internet and TV. I can state that I do not watch as much TV anymore - I am more of an Internet-kind-a-guy. So this should be interesting.

"By giving people the power to experience what they love on TV and on the Web on a single screen, Google TV turns the living room into a new platform for innovation," Salahuddin Choudhary, Google TV product manager, wrote on the company blog.

Since Apple TV failed miserably and other interesting attempts haven't succeeded really, it is more than interesting to see what Google can do with it. They will be competing with Micorsoft's XBox which has targeted that same sphere. I somehow lean towards Google pulling it off and making a real Internet experience for TV.

Web 3.0 – The Future of the Web

I found this in my friends blog; Olafur Andri.

An interesting documentary made by Kate Ray on Web 3.0 shows how the web is developing. Since content is increasing exponentially the problem is how to access and manage all this information. This becomes a question of scalability and semantics.

The semantic web is an interesting topic people have talked about for years, and are still talking about has the next big thing. It is still not clear how this will develop.

The documentary raises more questions than it answers:

Dell launching an iPad?

Computing company unveils plans for a thicker, smaller iPad competitor sporting Google's open-source Android operating system and support for Adobe's Flash.

Certainly this is good news for Apple as this means that others believe in the "pad" trend. It is also good for the consumers as there should be more attractive choices out there, for those who don't want the Apple domination thinking, as most Linux users have been unhappy with.

iPad – OMG!!!

Here it is finally. I was in New York in March and I just had to imagine holding it in my hand standing there in the Apple Store on 5th Avenue. It's actually like an underground store.... but anyway.

http://www.apple.com/ipad/

What can I say - is it useful? What will I potentially use it for? No Flash... is that good or bad? Well, actually it's bad for me because all the games my company designs are made in flash but what the heck... perhaps HTML 5 will become an instant hit ...one day.

But you have to adore Apple for doing this.

Business as unususal: Eyjafjallajokull

Mikið öskufall var í gærkvöldi. This little volcano in the north is not kidding. In the unpronounceable glacier in Iceland lies a massive force that can literally stop Europe and it just did. No flights today or tomorrow. International weather observatories in co-operation with the Icelandic Met Office are monitoring the weather conditions and the projected path of the volcanic ash cloud, which in the present conditions is being carried towards Europe and Scandinavia. Air travel restrictions have been implemented in several European countries.

What is more interesting is that this volcano is the "little one" - next door lurk it's big sister - Myrdalsjokull. Apparently last time this volcano erupted the big sister followed and that was also the case in the eruption before that and before that. Mind you, last time was a 100 years ago so I guess air-traffic wasn't affected much. The flood that followed last eruption in Myrdalsokull was measured and its estimated volume is said to be like the Nile, the Amazon and the Mississippi river all combined into one!

I plan to be as far away from that thing when that happens.
